End of Quarter 3 and Spring Break....

I can't believe yesterday was the end of quarter 3....where has the time gone?
I can't believe I only have 1 quarter (2 months and 2 weeks) left with my students!  I really don't want this year to end, I have enjoyed this school year so much.  There have been some tough times undoubtedly, but overall it has been an amazing year.

Every time I think about this year ending, I am sad but then I remember that this is just the start of my career and I can't wait to see what the future holds!  I have been blessed my first year of teaching and I can't imagine a better year!

Thank you to all the students, families, co-workers, and administrators for an amazing first 3 quarters of teaching!  Can't wait to see what quarter 4 holds and what the future holds!

Here is a note I left yesterday for my students, we start spring break today!

Target

I should not be allowed to go to Target anymore.  Every time I am there I end up spending way to much and it always ends up being stuff for my classroom or my students.  Don't get my wrong I love buy stuff and going to Target but even my students are making fun of me for going to Target to much.  Anytime they ask me where I got something I would say Target and now they just say "Let me guess you got this at Target."
Here is what I got on my last shopping trip to Target, which was tonight :)

Weekends & A Little Reflection

How my weekends have been spent lately...correcting papers, homework, or tests...end of quarter 3 in close!
I still can't believe that quarter 3 is over in 3 days!  Where has this year gone?  I have truly enjoyed my first year of teaching.  Every minute, every day, every week, every month there have been so many things that I have learned.  I couldn't imagine a better first year of teaching than this year.  I have been so blessed to have the students I do, work with the teachers I do, and work in the school district that I do.  Wouldn't trade this year for anything :)

You know your a teacher when....

You know your a teacher when, you are away for the weekend at the state bowling tournament and you end up going shopping, and you don't buy a thing for yourself but instead you buy things for your classroom and your students.

Pi Day

Here are some pictures of Pi day!!  Wouldn't be complete with getting a pie in the face by a student!

Basketball Hoops

Having students who love basketball and talk about it a ton has actual been fun for me.  I start thinking back to managing basketball and I am learning new things.

I use to manage boy's basketball in middle school and high school.  I was the varsity boy's basketball manager for 6 years!

With so many students talking about and enjoying basketball I have done some searching and digging for some basketball hoops for my classroom.  I have found a few at Target, Walmart, on Amazon and got a couple for free.  Having these hoops up in my room has been a lot of fun.  Some students come in during lunch to play, having students compare shots made versus shots attempted and finding percentages and fractions, and I have been using them with a review game for students to review for their test but have a fun twist on the review to make it a little competitive.

As of today I currently have 5 different basketball hoops in my classroom to use for different things and the students love being able to use them to review topics and just for some fun!  Now, sometimes the students get distracted so I have had to take them down a couple times but once they are down the students tend to realize having them up is a privilege and they try hard to get them back up and keep them up.

Overall, it has been a fun tool using to review with and work on different math skills with!

Science Museum

We had a field trip today and we went to the science museum.  We explore a couple different exhibits and we say a performance.  Some of the places we went and saw were the following:
  • Race theater performance
  • Race exhibit
  • Dinosaur exhibit
  • Math moves exhibit
  • Human body exhibit
  • Science/Math performances (speed, velocity, dropping things from a far distance with different weights and at different speeds and seeing what happens, throwing things upward by hand adn using a machine to see what happens.)
Overall, it was a good day and I got to enjoy some great conversations with students about the math exhibit and the race exhibit!

Getting Ready for "Pi" Day!

So in preparation for "Pi" day I found an activity that I am super excited for.  It is called "decorate your own pi."

What students are suppose to do is create some type of picture or design on their "pi" symbol using a word that starts with "pi."  As I get pictures turned in I will take some pictures of them and post to show how creative the students were!

Also they are to keep what they are doing a secret because we are going to be doing a "Pi" bracket to see whose is the best.  So students are going to vote for them in each round of the brackets so I told students not to tell anyone what they are doing and to secretly turn it into me.  I also told the students that I would be making one as well.

Sub Notes and "Pi"

So as I sit here during lunch at my math curriculum training, I realize that I would rather be back at school with my classes.  I never realized until this year how much goes into planning for a sub.  I knew that a lot when into it just didn't realize how much.  I tend to leave more than what the class will get through but I don't want to leave the sub without something to do with the class.

I also tend to organize and clean my desk like crazy when I have a sub so that everything can be found easily, below is a picture of what my desk tends to look like when I have a sub.
On a side note, while at training today I was a little off topic at one point a created the "Pi" sign out of clay.  Not sure why I created it but maybe its because "Pi" day is coming up!
